Ethical Media Conversion for Creators and Students
Use conversion tools responsibly for your own recordings, projects, and permitted materials.
Good uses
Converting your own camera clips, class recordings you are allowed to keep, voice notes, interviews with permission, project exports, and personal archives are normal uses of a media converter.
Risky uses
Ripping audio or video from streaming services, bypassing platform download restrictions, or redistributing copyrighted material can violate laws and platform terms.
Why Bylefian avoids URLs
Bylefian does not provide a URL downloader. It is designed around local files that the user already has on their device.
Respect the source
When in doubt, get permission or use official download/export tools provided by the owner or platform.
Permission depends on context
Owning a physical copy, receiving a link, or being able to play a file does not automatically grant permission to reproduce or redistribute it. Classroom, workplace, subscription, and licensed media can have separate rules. Use official export or download functions when they exist and ask the rights holder when the permitted use is unclear.
Protect people in recordings
A file can be lawful to possess and still contain private voices, faces, names, or documents. Obtain appropriate consent before sharing an interview, meeting, or class recording. Remove unnecessary sections and metadata when possible, and choose local processing when the content should not be uploaded to another service.
Keep conversion separate from circumvention
Changing a format for compatibility is different from bypassing encryption, access controls, paywalls, or platform restrictions. Bylefian accepts local files and intentionally provides no streaming-site URL downloader. The user remains responsible for the rights attached to the selected source and resulting copy.
Before you convert
- Know who owns the source and what permission covers.
- Use official exports when available.
- Consider the privacy of recorded people.
- Do not bypass access controls or redistribute without permission.
